Grungy Poster Design /tutorial
So here is a tutorial showing how to make a really dirty poster. Turn a regular photograph into the most interesting graphic design. I’m going to walk you through some easy but but fun steps on how to make this grungy looking poster. I use Photoshop CS3.
Step 1
Open up a photo you would like to use. I picked a photo of a friend of mine.

Step 2
Select the Magnetic Lasso Tool (L) and follow the outlines of the figure. Go to Select>Refine Edge… use the settings below.
Then set the background color to black and go to Select>Inverse, now hit the backspace key to delete the background. Go to Select>Inverse and press Layer>New>Layer via Cut.
Rename the new layer Figure

Step 3
Select the Rectangular Marquee Tool (M) and make selection as shown below with Father set to 55 px.
Press (D) to set the default background and foreground colors. Now go to Layer>Layer Mask>Reveal Selection.

Step 4
Make sure that you have selected the Layer Mask. Here you will need some grunge brushes, you can find good brushes at brusheezy.com.
Select the Brush Tool (B) and white for foreground color. Now start painting the hidden figure.

Step 5
Select the Clone Stamp Tool (S) and hold the ALT key to select the source point. After that, start cloning some parts figure to spread the shatters as shown below. Use the grunge brush again to expose more of the hidden figure.
Then Layer>Flatten Image.

Step 6
Go to Filter>Artistic>Poster Edges… use the default settings. After that, go to Filter>Artistic>Cutout… use the settings below.

Step 7
Select the Magic Wand Tool (W) and set Tolerance to 0. Select the black background. Select>Inverse and press Layer>New>Layer via Cut.

Step 8
Right click the new layer and select Blending Options… Set Outer Glow as below.

Step 9
Now do the following steps:
- Create a new layer beneath the figures layer.
- Set white as your foreground color.
- Select the Gradient Tool (G) and set it as shown below.
- Make a light as shown.
- Right click the new layer and select Blending Options… Set Outer Glow as below.

Step 10
Get yourself some vector packs like the free Go Media Vector Pack Sample.
I added some birds on a new layer with the Blending mode set to Overlay.

Step 11 - Textures
Now use some textures like http://abduzeedo.com/36-cool-free-textures
First of we need to get a paper kind of look. So use this texture. Now use the Move Tool (V) to transform and rotate the image. Then set the blending mode to Overlay.

Step 12
This is the 2nd one that I used. Duplicate it and flip it vertical. Now hold down Shift while selecting the two texture-layers, then right click and select Merge Layers. Put the blending mode to Overlay.
After that duplicate the layer and flip it horizontal. Put the blending mode to Color and the Opacity to 75%.

Step 13
The last one we will use for this tutorial you can find here. Use the Move Tool (V) to transform and rotate the image. Then set the blending mode to Overlay and the Opacity to 75%.

Conclusion
Now add some final touches, like adding some text or logo.

The two finger scrolling thing works much better with IE7 than firefox. In firefox is much slower and I have to repeat the tapping/draging because most of the time it won’t work. No problem again with IExplorer 7.
anyone has a fix for firefox (3.04)?
I did try the options, all of them : smooth scrolling on/off etc.
